Specially Selected Pear & Blue Cheese Flatbread

Specially Selected Pear & Blue Cheese Flatbread

Pepperoni. Ham & Pineapple. BBQ Chicken. All very delicious flavors of pizza, however, I’ve had them more times in my life than I can count. ALDI is pretty amazing about having unique flavored pizza, so when I saw this Specially Selected Pear & Blue Cheese Flatbread in the freezer case, you know it was going to end up in my cart.

I’m the only one in my family who likes these frou frou type pizzas, so I got to enjoy this all by myself! Woo! This bakes up super easily…just cook directly on the middle oven rack for 10-12 minutes at 440 degrees. (Be sure to preheat that bad boy first.) I baked mine for 10 and it was cooked nicely.

After redistributing the pears a little, (you will see below they weren’t very evenly spread out), I grabbed myself a slice, sank my teeth in and….frowned a little.

First off, this flatbread is covered in a rich, creamy creme fraiche and pear sauce and LOADS of ooey gooey cheese. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about pears on my pizza, but surprisingly they worked.  Well, almost. Something was missing. What was it?

Did you scroll by the pizza pictures? Do you see the two itty bitty areas where the cheese was slightly blue/green? That was all the blue cheese I could detect in this pizza. I thought maybe that it was hiding among the sauce and the other cheeses, but nope. I took apart this WHOLE pizza and could not find nor taste any blue cheese, and I feel that’s what this pizza was really lacking. It was lacking the tang of the blue cheese to balance out the sweetness of the pears. It did not have nearly the amount of blue cheese as pictured on the box.

Ugh!! Such a bummer!! This pizza was pretty good, but it really would have been over the top awesome if I had just had some more (or any) blue cheese zip…this would have scored an A no problem.

This ALDI Find is located in the freezer section for $3.99 for a limited time. (Also available in Goat Cheese & Plum Sauce variety). Who else has tried this…did I get some fluke flatbread or are all of them lacking in the moldy cheese department?

  1. I had this last night, and I have to say it was OUTRAGEOUSLY AWESOME!!! I think you got a fluke pizza. Ours had the pears spread out a lot more evenly than yours, and we had more than enough blue cheese to keep the sweet/tangy aspect in great balance. As a LOVER of blue cheese, I was VERY happy to see there was more than enough to make this a really fantastic flatbread pizza! I am really looking forward to trying the Goat Cheese and Plum Sauce one tonight.

I loved it SO much that I am writing to the parent company to ask them to keep this as one of their regular items!

BTW – since you weren’t happy with it, I hope you took the opportunity to bring the empty box and your receipt back to the store to take advantage of their “If you don’t like it, get your money back AND a replacement” guarantee! They don’t really advertise that much, but I’ve used it on multiple occasions and they’ve always graciously accepted the return. Depending on the store, I had to remind the manager of the “free replacement” aspect a few times, but they were always very nice about it.

  2. I am eating this RIGHT now! and just said to my husband “this is really lacking blue cheese, I don’t taste any!” then hopped online to see if there were any rereviews. I think it would have been great if there would have been blue cheese. I had the goat cheese and plum last week. It was AMAZING!! Went back yesterday and they were out 😦 Only had the pear and blue cheese left.
