Specially Selected Pumpkin & Butternut Squash Pasta Sauce

specially selected pumpkin & butternut squash pasta sauce

Anytime I can sneak extra veggies in to my kiddo’s food, I get excited, so finding this jar of Specially Selected Pumpkin & Butternut Squash Pasta Sauce was a highlight on my last ALDI trip!

I found this Seasonal Item along with all the every day pasta sauces at my store. It comes in a 24 oz jar and has a sister flavor, Pumpkin Chipotle, that I didn’t buy (and probably won’t), because my kids usually fuss when something is spicy. (Suprisingly, they gobble up the ALDI Tikka Masala sauce, though!)

So did this sauce pass the ALDI Nerd test?

OH YEAH!

This sauce is sweet and creamy and no one suspected that it was anything other than good old tomato sauce! I mostly tasted tomato and pumpkin, with hints of the butternut squash. I served it with some Priano Spinach & Cheese Ravioli, an ALDI Find located in the freezer section. They were delicious together and I plan on going back to stock up before the Fall season is over.

Each 24 oz jar of this Harvest Pasta Sauce serves 5 and is $2.49. Any Nerds out there try the Pumpkin Chipotle? What did you think?

The ALDI Nerd Grade: A

Grading Scale

  • A = Excellent! I LOVE this product!
  • B = Good! I really like this!
  • C = This is just okay. I just kind of like this.
  • D = Not Great. I’ll keep it, but probably won’t buy another.
  • F = BUMMER! I’ll probably return this to the store.

  1. I tried the pumpkin chipotle sauce last year on spaghetti… Was not impressed and most of the pasta went to waste. Maybe it would taste better on some sort of southwestern dish but I haven’t tried it since.

Now that pumpkin butternut squash… I love it. Made stuffed spaghetti squash with it (along wit hthe already cooked tomato basil sausage and shredded Italian cheese blend) was good. Made pizza with it in the past.

  2. LOVE this Fall-inspired sauce!!!!!!!! The Pumpkin Chipotle was a bit spicy for me (especially when it’s warm outside) and I’m a Louisiana girl stuck in Indiana! LOL However, I plan on trying it again on a Mexican dish during the winter months and I’ll probably be just fine with it! =)

    1. I have a few jars of the pumpkin chipotle sauce but I cannot eat pasta right now. If you have a recipe to use it that has little or no pasta, I’d appreciate if you would share. Thank you.
