Casa Mamita Apple Spice Salsa

The real feel in Michigan is going to be in the 90s today, but I’m totally switched over to Fall Mode! So on my last shopping trip, I picked up this jar of Casa Mamita Apple Spice Salsa to try out.

This seasonal item, is back in stores and can be found with all the rest of the other Casa Mamita Salsas. I bought some thin sliced pork chops and SimplyNature Pumpkin Seed Tortilla Chips to try it on. (Thanks to a fellow ALDI Nerd for the pork chop suggestion. Pork chops and applesauce yo!)

Ingredients: Apple puree, water, diced tomatoes, onions, crushed tomatoes, cider vinegar, brown sugar, honey, apples, sugar, red bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, cilantro, garlic, sea salt, cumin, cinnamon, xanthan gum, and crushed red pepper.

What do I think? I think this is just ok.

This salsa is very sweet. I don’t know if it’s because I’m not much a of  a “sweet for savory” type person or if this just has too much sugar. Trust me, I could chow on chocolate and ice cream all day, but I was just not feeling this. It does have a really nice apple and cinnamon flavor, though, with just a little bit of heat at the end (by the way – this Apple Spice Salsa is rated “Mild”).

If apple isn’t your thing, ALDI also came out with Pumpkin Harvest (medium) and Pumpkin Chipotle (hot) varieties to tickle your fall tastebuds. Each 16 oz jar costs $2.19 and will only be around for the fall season.

  • C = This is just okay. I just kind of like this.
  • D = Not Great. I’ll keep it, but probably won’t buy another.
  • F = BUMMER! I’ll probably return this to the store.

What’s your take on sweet salsas? Yay or nay?
